This an illustration from my picture book WHO WILL BE THE SUN? published by Blackie. The myth comes from the Kutenai people of Montana USA. It tells the story of the birds and the animals trying in turn to be the sun. it is Lynx who is finally chosen.
THE GREAT BALL PLAY tells the story of a lacrosse match between the birds and the animals. It was told by the Creek of the South Eastern States of the USA. My illustrations were inspired by watching my two sons and their friends playing park football.
This is an illustration from HOW THE SEASONS CAME. This Native American myth explains how once it was winter all the time until the birds of Spring, Summer and Autumn were set free.
These illustrations are from my picture book MONKEY AND THE WATER DRAGON. I adapted the story from an ancient Chinese folk tale, and is one of the amazing adventures which the hero Monkey and his friends have, on their way to India, to fetch the Buddhist scriptures back to China.
